Where did the New York Jets get their name?
Originally, the New York Jets were called the Titans of New York. In 1963, when the team was experiencing financial difficulties, they were purchased by a different ownership group and the team was moved to Shea Stadium. The name was changed to the Jets for two reasons: first, because the new stadium was near LaGuardia airport, and second, to reflect the new, modern direction of the franchise.
